Up on the first floor you’ll find two tasteful bedrooms, a minimalist king-size with a window set into an alcove and a cosy single room which is perfect for children, as well as an additional WC. The enclosed garden offers complete privacy, with a table, chairs and parasol to ensure you can make the most of sunny weather be it dining al fresco or sitting and reading a book in the sunshine. Half a mile away, Sudbury Water Meadows is a wonderful place to walk with riverside trails, wildflowers lining the pathways and a variety of animals to spot along the circular route. Head to National Trust Melford Hall to visit the historic Tudor house with its moat, deer park and well-maintained gardens which are a pleasure to walk through at all times of the year. Further afield, visit the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB (20 miles) for a change of scenery and marvel at the rugged coastline. From here you’ll have easy access to Dedham Vale AONB (18 miles) and Dovercourt Beach (30 miles).

The Cartlodge Reviews

Sally
What an absolute gem. The property was lovely and clean and perfectly located, for walks on the meadows, pubs and restaurants. A lovely base to see surrounding ares. Amazing.
Amanda
Good location for walks across the meadows and into Sudbury. Quite a small place but ok for a couple. The patio area is separate to the accommodation and itâ??s to the right through a gate but no grass area.
Christopher John
It was better than expected, a very nice garden unfortunately the weather was too wet, to sit outside.
Stephen
A lovely clean, well equipped, comfortable cottage. A great base to explore the area, ideal for visiting Lavenham, Sutton Hoo and Colchester. Good walks from the door and a private garden to sit and relax.
Karen
Lovely house in walking distance into Sudbury. Loved walking the dog across the meadows into the town and to Long Melford. Great place to eat at The Old Mill in Sudbury; again a beautiful walk across the meadows and by the river.
Gill
Comfortable new accommodation. Well presented and equipped. Bathroom downstairs with toilet up near bedroom. Polished wooden staircase needs care. Shower over high-sided bath only for the nimble.
Ian
We very much enjoyed our two week stay at The Cartlodge. It was light, modern, comfortable and well-equipped. John the owner was very pleasant but never intrusive and very quickly replaced a faulty tin opener! The property is beautifully placed, in a quiet road right opposite the Water Meadows and only a twenty minute walk (or five minute drive) from the centre of Sudbury. We had good meals at the Bull in Long Melford and the Fox in Bulmer Tye, plus excellent fresh bread from Cradle Bakers, at "our" end of North Street in Sudbury. We're coming back at Christmas.
Joel
Beautiful cottage. The hosts were brilliant and extremely helpful. Couldnâ??t have chosen a better place to stay.
Simon
Great cottage in an ideal location. Easy walk into Sudbury and perfect situation to explore South Suffolk and Essex. Well equipped and warm.
Tracey
Lovely small and comfortable cottage on the outskirts of Sudbury, with lots of parking space on the drive. The town of Sudbury has lots of amenities and we enjoyed our walk along the river. The cottage is very well placed to visit lots of beautiful villages and NT properties.
Paul
Great cottage. Had everything we needed. Within walking distance to centre of Sudbury and meadow walks. Great location to explore both Suffolk and Essex..
Edward
Very good we have stayed there 3 times
Jennifer
A lovely cottage with all amenities for a home from home stay, very clean and comfy beds, a good base to visit long melford, lavenham, and Clare plenty of eating places from pubs to tea rooms
